Calesco S19 Lighting System

Manufactured in the UK, Calesco S19 extends the Calesco range with a new blow moulded Acrylic cover and an option for RGB LEDs built into the central filament support structure. The large black base employed on standard Calesco is removed to realise a more natural lamp shape which is based on the Edison / S19 light fitting. Calesco warm white filaments offer a ‘tungsten like’ effect to create stunning lighting displays.

Externally Calesco S19 lamp units are identical to standard ES fitting bulbs. Internally they incorporate special microprocessor controlled circuitry to decode our advanced combined power and data technology and control high intensity filaments. Up to 100 LED units can be connected on a single two conductor cable. Each lamp is independently controllable despite being on the same cable. The system is not polarity sensitive so lamps can connect either way around further simplifying installation.

The LEDs are driven with true linear variable current, not PWM, providing super smooth dimming and making the system ideal for use in studios and situations where cameras are present.

Note that LED filaments are fragile, Although the cover is robust, filaments can break if subjected to rough handling.

Technical Overview

Robust and versatile, Calesco lamps create traditional ‘incandescent like’ lighting effects with an extremely simple installation strategy. The units are based around an acrylic blow moulded clear globe with a polished brass or chrome filament support structure. This combination results in a strong product which is suitable for static or touring applications. Intensity is equivalent to incandescent 40W.

The highly polished support structure reflects light from the filaments enhancing the lighting effect. A unique option provides RGB LEDs built into the central support structure to add a colour option with a luminance pattern virtually identical to the filaments.

Operation

A system is comprised of a VP or IP series mains driver. The drivers accept universal mains supply and output a DC voltage with the combined power and data signal modulated on the positive supply. As a high voltage is required to drive LED filaments, VP/IP 300-80 and 700-80 drivers output a positive and negative voltage relative to earth to reduce electric shock risk however the output voltage (81VDC) must still be regarded as hazardous and installation should only be undertaken by qualified engineers.

Up to 100 Calesco lamps all wire in parallel from the driver output. The wiring configuration is flexible, lamps can be wired in strings or can be individually wired and connect back to the power unit outputs using terminals or splitters, all that is required is for the lamps to wire in parallel. Prior to fitting into the installation, each Calesco lamp is assigned a number using the hand programmer. The number makes a given lamp unique on the system. Note that multiple lamps can be assigned the same number and will then operate from the same DMX Channels. Once installation is complete with all lamps programmed, each lamp will respond to the assigned DMX channels.

The system realises individual control of up to 100 lamps with just a single two conductor cable.
